Inshore Fly Fishing
Fly Fishing in Florida
Fly Fishing in Florida is a beautiful thing as we can do it year-round. Just like anywhere in the world, there are seasons here, with different species of fish we can target in those different seasons. Snook and Redfish are our primary targeted species and the best months start in October and carry through into March. Water clarity is at its best during the winter which makes for some stellar sight fishing.
Fly Fishing for Redfish in Florida
Redfish are our primary species during the coldest months due to their tolerance to the cold. Fly fishing for redfish is best when sight fishing in shallow water with conditions dictating whether we’re looking for tails, wakes, or spotting the fish through the surface of the water. Oftentimes, targeting redfish feels like a spot and stalk hunt as we quietly pole the flats. Their willingness to eat a properly presented fly and what seems like an uncanny ability to detect subtle changes in their environment is what makes them a great quarry during our winter months. Tides are one of the most important variables when planning a day. Calling and discussing tide/times with your Captain will benefit the charter as a whole.
Fly Fishing for Snook in Florida
Sight fishing snook can be some of the most exciting inshore fishing, hands down. Due to the nature of the beast, they can be explosive and unpredictable. Being an ambush predator, snook like to congregate around a feature that has tidal flow and when combined with their natural camouflage, they can be almost impossible to see at times. Snook will begin their transition out of their stable winter dwellings when the water temperatures start to hit the 70-degree mark. Springtime is the best time to sight fish a large fish, but snook are available to target almost 10 months out of the year. However, Spring and Fall provide the best opportunity to sight fish snook.
