Fly fishing in Tampa bay for Snook, Redfish and Tarpon has been phenomenal. The snook have been chewing as they transition to their summer spawning grounds. Large amounts of fish will congregate in the passes and bridges but can still be found on the flats just adjacent. Some fish will begin to show up on our beaches this month and can be targeted in the mornings before the wind switch followed by a west wind. Scaled sardine imitations work well but my favorite is a clouser with an intermediate fly line.
Fly fishing for redfish was difficult on the full moon but some fish were caught on the semi low tides we had this month in St. Joseph Sound. The water clarity in Upper Tampa Bay has diminished with the warm temperatures making sight fishing almost impossible. Bait fish imitations work the best the next few months.
Fly fishing for tarpon the next few months will be exception as more and more fish show up and begin to move and feed with the big spawn approaching. Can’t wait to have an awesome season with any one who is fishing with me this season!
